Sebastiaan rejoined the Clingendael Institute as an Academy Programme Fellow in 2022, after having interned at the institute in 2019. In the meantime Sebastiaan worked as a public sector consultant helping various international organizations, ministries, local governments and semi-governmental organizations, always focusing on strategy, transition and public value creation.

Ornella Moderan

Research Associate
Associates are experts in their own field and contractually affiliated with Clingendael. Although associates are not employees of the Clingendael Institute, they comply with all policies that Clingendael staff do.

Ornella Moderan is an Research Associate Fellow with Clingendael’s Conflict Research Unit. Her work focuses on political and security dynamics in the Sahel and West Africa. She has an acute interest in gender and women’s agency in the (re)production of violence, and her work is guided by an intersectional feminist commitment to examining power relations.

Three years after the historic ousting of the long-time dictator al-Bashir, Sudan’s revolution continues. The military coup of last October has effectively ended Sudan’s post-Bashir transition to democracy but has fanned the flames of the Sudanese people’s struggle for freedom, peace, and justice.

Moneera Yassien is a Junior Research Fellow with the Conflict Research Unit (CRU) of Clingendael. She contributes to the work of the Horn of Africa team as an economist and data analyst.

She is particularly interested in using qualitative and quantitative methods, to research the economic development in fragile states and the role of conflict and fragility in shaping the different elements of country’s economic and political development.
