An assessment of conflict potential in the Middle East in relation to Dutch national interests

Over the past three decades, interest in understanding, predicting and preventing violent conflict across different fragile and conflict-affected situations has soared. The focus on conflict prevention recognises not only the imperative of preventing the steep human costs associated with violent conflict and donor interests in stability in key regions across the world, but also rests on the idea that conflict prevention is cost-effective.

Paula Stuurman joined the Clingendael Institute in April 2024 as an Academy Project Fellow. In this role, Paula primarily works on the development, coordination, and implementation of training programmes in the international security sector for Dutch and international audiences. In addition, Paula works on capacity building and diplomatic practice. 

Prior to joining the Clingendael Academy, Paula worked a little shy of two years at the International Criminal Court (2022-2024) and at the Dutch Supreme Audit Institution (2021-2022).
