Mike Knook joined the Clingendael Institute as an Academy Project Fellow in April 2024. In this capacity, Mike develops and coordinates a variety of training programmes for foreign diplomats and international civil servants. He works, and will be working, with groups from Indonesia, ASEAN member states, and the Middle East and North Africa, among others. 

Before joining Clingendael, Mike was a teaching staff member at the University of Amsterdam. In this position, he taught a Core Module Course in International Relations, International Relations of the Middle East, and courses on academic skills and methods. His passion and expertise lie in the field of political economy, economic development, and the MENA region.

Mike holds a bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Development Sociology. He also completed a programme in Beijing on China’s Belt and Road Initiative from the London School of Economics and Peking University, and holds a master’s degree in Political Economy.
