Marieke has joined the Clingendael Institute as an Academy Project Fellow in May 2024. As of now, she primarily coordinates training programmes for humanitarian aid workers within the Humanitarian Negotiations Programme, but also contributes to other programmes for international professionals.

She holds a BA in International Studies with a regional specialization in Latin America from Leiden University. In this context, she studied six months at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla in Mexico and interned at the Politics, Press and Public Diplomacy department of the Dutch Embassy in Mexico City. She holds an MA in International Affairs with a major in Global Security from the Geneva Graduate Institute.

Following graduation, she completed a traineeship at the Humanitarian Aid Thematic Policies unit at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations. Prior to working for the Clingendael Institute, Marieke worked with various Dutch humanitarian NGOs through the Dutch Relief Alliance and worked for the International Office at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
