From May 23rd to 28th, Clingendael Academy provided a training programme in Hanoi, Viet Nam, focusing on Environmental Law and Best Practices for Vietnamese officials and university lecturers. One of the training days was held on the Royal Dutch Navy Ship HMNLS Tromp which was docked in Haiphong, Viet Nam. The training aboard the ship provided an inspiring location to discuss environmental law with a specific focus on marine-related challenges.

The overarching goal of the training programme is to deepen participants’ knowledge of International Environmental Law, provide them with tools and skills to implement the knowledge gained in their day-to-day work and strengthen their communication skills to disseminate their newfound knowledge and skills further. The programme includes skills sessions provided by Clingendael Academy trainers and lectures on International Environmental law delivered by Seline Trevisanut, Professor of International Law and Sustainability from Utrecht University School of Law. Participants also had the opportunity to engage in discussions and reflections on Environmental Law within both the Vietnamese and International contexts.

The training is organised in close collaboration with the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and is part of a 4-year cooperation between Clingendael and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam on International Law in Maritime related areas, and is supported and funded by the Netherlands Embassy in Hanoi.
