Liam Klein

Liam Klein is a Research Fellow at the Strategic Foresight Programme, having joined the Clingendael Institute in June 2024. As a researcher in strategic foresight, he scans the geopolitical landscape for emerging trends, builds future scenarios based on those trends, and assesses relative risk. Within this broader research agenda, he is especially interested in American politics and EU-US relations, in polarization and extremism, and in the centrality of ideology to 21st-century politics more generally.

Before joining Clingendael, Liam was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University, where he taught a wide range of courses in the history of political ideologies, political theory, and international relations. His work has been published in the journals Political Theory, History of Political Thought, and Polis: The Journal for Ancient Greek and Roman Political Thought.

He holds a BA in Liberal Arts from Leiden University College, an MPhil in History from the University of Cambridge, an AM in Political Science from Harvard University, and a PhD in Political Science, also from Harvard University. His PhD dissertation investigated the long history of anti-intellectual sentiment in American conservative politics.
