Negotiation and mediation training for humanitarians, mediators and diplomats

The negotiations of humanitarians, mediators and diplomats are crucial to provide assistance and reach those most in need. The ability to effectively negotiate in stressful circumstances is a skill which is essential to all the professionals involved: from the humanitarian negotiating access on the frontline with armed groups, to the manager in headquarters and the diplomats at embassies or in their capitals.

In 2023, Clingendael Academy has trained more than 450 humanitarians, humanitarian mediators and humanitarian diplomats to increase access and effectiveness of humanitarian assistance. More than 80% of the participants are local or national staff, and the majority of them work in hard-to-reach areas in the world. Our training-of-trainers alumni (a group of over 60 trainers) have also trained more than 300 local aid workers in their own region and in their own language.

We are proud to be able to make a contribution to the humanitarian sector in their important work of supporting people in need. Our programme is financed by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
